Project Partners

The international project “Peaceful Change and Violent Conflict – The Transformation of the Middle East and Western-Muslim Relations” is a cooperative and interdisciplinary endeavour of academic teachers and researchers of Universities in Germany, Morocco, Iran  and Pakistan.

The Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), which was founded in 1990, is an Institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen (Faculty of Social Sciences), Germany. INEF is the only German research institute working on questions at the intersection of peace and development and combines basic with applied research and public policy consulting. It closely collaborates with the Development and Peace Foundation (SEF), Bonn, established in 1986 at the initiative of former German chancellor and Nobel peace prize winner Willy Brandt.


The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Akhawayn University, Ifrane, Morocco, provides innovative degree programs in applied Social Sciences with an emphasis on interdisciplinary, critical and analytical skills, as well as practical learning. The programs offered include: Communication Studies, Human Resource Development and International Studies. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences also has a mandate to encourage dialogue and debates among different cultures and civilizations in an academic atmosphere characterized by pluralism, respect for the other, and academic freedom.


Founded in 1993, the School of Juridical, Economic and Social Sciences, Mohammed V – Souissi University, Rabat, Morocco, is an institution of higher education with the aim to develop educational and research programs in the legal, economic and social fields. It offers basic and vocational training for different levels of education (Bachelor, Master, Specialized Master, Doctorate). It encourages and promotes scientific research and aims at establishing partnerships and cooperation agreements with various national and international institutions for setting up projects of common interest.


The National Institute of Pakistan Studies at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, was established in 1983. It engages in high level teaching and research and trains researchers through M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D and other programs. It promotes cooperation in inter-disciplinary relationship with other Centers, teaching and research establishments and conducts teaching and research in such particular fields as assigned to it by the Federal Government in consultation with the Quaid-i-Azam University.


The Faculty for World Studies at the University of Tehran, established in 2007, is the first academic institution in Iran dealing with the study of countries and regions around the world and is one of a kind in the Middle East. It focuses on an inter-disciplinary approach to the study of political, cultural, economic, and sociological aspects of a given country or region.
