Welcome to the project:
Peaceful Change and Violent Conflict
The Transformation of the Middle East and Western-Muslim Relations
The current changes in the Middle East have been called the “Arab Spring” or “Arabellion”. They are not only opening new chapters in many societies, but also in International Relations, including the European-Middle Eastern relationship. This leads to an increased need for academic research to better understand the different aspects of the local, regional, and international changes and their implication for Western-Muslim relations. At the same time, the ongoing developments are providing new and unexpected opportunities for academic cooperation in regard to research and teaching.
The international project “Peaceful Change and Violent Conflict – The Transformation of the Middle East and Western-Muslim Relations” is a cooperative endeavour of academic teachers and researchers of Universities in Germany (University of Duisburg-Essen), Morocco (Mohammed V.-Souissi University, Rabat), Iran (University of Tehran) and Pakistan (Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad).
The project is trying to strengthen cooperation in academic teaching and in research, and at the same time to contribute to intercultural dialogue and understanding by joint cooperative work by scholars and students from different countries and cultures.
It is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst, DAAD).
